Samsung S8 not able to receive/make calls or texts

My phone had an update over the weekend and since then I have not been able to make or receive calls or texts.  I have done all the cache clearing, starting and restarting with no luck.  Any thoughts?  I need my phone to work from home and log into a secure VPN so I am desperate.

It's Boost but only regarding Samsung.  We have another phone on this plan with no issues.

I am having the same problem with my S8 phone since the last update. Took it to a Boost store earlier this week and they did something and it worked and it stopped working again today. My phone is my office as I am a self-employed contractor. I must be able to make and receive calls and texts. I am in the Washington DC metro area - my wife's phone is on the account too (she has an LG) and she has had no problems.

I need a permanent fix ASAP because temporary fixes are terrible for business - both mine AND yours.

Hey Everyone, sorry for the late reply, but I've had on/off success with what's been going on.

For context, I went through everything Boost/Samsung reps tell us to do to try and fix the problem. I believe, like most of you, that this stems from the latest Samsung update, and involves corrupted firmware (will explain).

Prior to going to the local authorized repair, I performed a factory reset of my phone, and I still had to restart, dial ##72786# (as boost suggested), then let my phone restart, and restarted again after the automatic restart (trying to save anything that got reset). That worked well enough for a few days, and in fact the automatic diagnostic tool that the authorized repair provider used said my phone 'shouldn't have any problems'. What they told me is that the factory reset will reset any DATA/settings on the phone, but the phone software/firmware isn't reset. Samsung does offer re-flashing of the phone, which essentially wipes EVERYTHING off the phone for clean re-installs, and this is FREE at any authorized repair shop, even if your phone is out of warranty (as long as the problem is software only). This might be the only solution, as I still experience the problem every now and then (but with much less frequency).

I should note that I still cannot send MMS messages, and I believe that was what was causing my network to glitch out. MMS messages include pictures and 'group chats*'.  However, I can make and receive calls now, and send SMS messages.

And one more (hopefully final) update, Just chatted with Boost about the MMS problems, they took me through the steps again, but in a very specific order, and it seems to have worked!

So sorry to hear that, @u0999. Did you contact Samsung support? What were you told?

Sorry to hear that, @Dynamomaximo. What were you told about the problems you've been experiencing since the update? Did you ask if it was possible to downgrade the software version to the previous one?

Samsung was no help to me either. ##reset 5 times today. When it's this joke ass company going to do something about it? It's been like 3 weeks. No intentions on paying another bill without some kind of answer.

Nope, still having problems. Never mind, I may eventually just get the re-flash.

My phone has been worthless as far as using it as an actual phone as well for about a month. I initially thought it was a temporary glitch, but no. I can't call out and incoming calls go straight to voicemail. I also can't reply to texts. I've been a customer for years, and have never had such an issue. I've tried all the normal solutions and it isn't a normal problem, and troubleshooting seems to point in the direction of a SIM card issue. It did suddenly cease working after an update. I've been without phone service (that I am paying for regardless) because I'm going to replace my phone altogether and will likely avoid Samsung despite it traditionally being my preferred phone. Its frustrating, even though the majority of my usage is not making or recieving calls, I still don't like not having the ability when I'm out and the security having a method of contact when you're away from home is gone while I am experiencing this problem. Considering the volume of customers experiencing this issue between Samsung and Boost Mobile, it seems that one or both companies would officially address the issue and try to make it right, or at the very least acknowledge there is a problem while they work on a solution.

I guess this is what happens when DISH buys a cell phone company? I'm not really sure what else has changed.

And here's why I think it's a Boost Mobile issue - I know other people who have this exact phone but use other carriers and they have had no troubles at all.

Meanwhile, it seems only limited to this phone because the LG phone we have on this account is working just fine.

To do a reset which I already did once and I do ##72786# several times a day And it helped for a period of time but now back to same issue (No MMS with photos downloading is wifi is on, call connectivity drops periodically, cannot send MMS either).  Seriously people, we cannot be resetting our phones aevery few hours or days. I have many business apps on the phone and last time it wiped out many of my settings, was not easy to restore. But did not solve the problem. In am in the mountains and going to a repair shop is not an easy thing. And even then it appears from other posters that it does not completely resolve the issue.
